Food takes center stage at Fine Arts Fiesta, too.
|WILKES-BARRE — Nothing says fiesta like chocolate covered bacon.
Especially when its on a hot dog.
Or covered with peanut butter covered bacon.
Horr’s Hot Dogs of Moosic is offering these varieties and more at its stand at the Fine Arts Fiesta on Public Square. Owner Buddy Prusinski said there is a reason for the 12 varieties of hot dogs.
“We started out just doing regular hot dogs, but we had trouble getting into fairs and festivals,” Prusinski said. “So we decided to change it up a bit.”
Horr’s still has the plain hot dog, called The Naked, that can be served with relish. mustard and/or ketchup.
From there, the choices range from chili & cheese, mac & cheese, bacon wrapped, and a Hula Dog that is wrapped in bacon and topped with pineapple and red onion. There is a Sloppy Dog with chili, cheese, white onions, sauerkraut and relish, and a Fat Wally that is bacon wrapped and topped with baked beans and cheddar.
There is a corn dog and a breakfast dog which features scrambled eggs, hash browns and topped with cheddar cheese. And if you can handle it, try the nacho dog with crushed tortillas, jalapeno peppers, cheddar and salsa.
“We’ve been pretty busy so far,” Prusinski said. “It’s a nice festival and the weather is perfect.”
Brian Benedetti, director of the Fine Arts Fiesta, was more cautious when talking about the weather.
“So far, so good,” he said while grabbing some lunch. The National Weather Service says Friday will be mostly sunny with temperatures in the high 60s to low 70s. But Friday night, showers could come in and the weekend might see thunderstorms. A lot of rain isn’t expected, so festival goers should be spared any extreme bad weather.
The Fine Arts Fiesta has a lot of variety in its food offerings. Hungry festival goers can choose from cheese steaks, gyros, potato pancakes, pasta, funnel cakes, ice cream, pizza, chicken on a stick, sno cones, french fries, sea food, haluski, jambalaya and more.
Marianacci’s Restaurant of Wyoming is at the festival for the first time. Alissa Marianacci said they are featuring egg plant Parmesan, chicken Parmesan, penne in vodka sauce or marinara, and chocolate peanut butter pie.
“So far we are pretty busy,” Marianacci said. ” The weather has been great. A lot of people are out.”
Recording artist Frank Shiner, a native of Mountain Top, will perform in the band shell Friday night at 8 p.m. and Martha Davis & The Motels will be on stage at 8p.m. Saturday.
Local song and dance groups will be performing throughout the four-day festival.
